Development and validation of a multidimensional measure of sport-specific psychological skills: the Athletic Coping Skills Inventory-28

Article Abstract:

The Athletic Coping Skill Inventory-28 (ACSI-28) is a multidimensional scale which measures seven psychological coping skills with a high factorial validity. Six of the subscales show high test-retest reliability. The ACSI-28 scale puts emphases on life stress, social support and psychological coping skills as the causal factors of psychosocial vulnerability to athletic injury. Validation studies show that although physical skills are independent of psychological skills, they are important for evaluating the role of psychological skills in performance.

Psychological skills as predictors of performance and survival in professional baseball

Article Abstract:

A study of the influence of psychological and physical skills on baseball players shows that performance and survival are independent attributes, but significantly influence the outcomes in professional baseball. Psychological skills affect athletic performance variance even in the absence of physical skill differences. Psychological scales show that learning opportunities from instructional programs focussing on the psychological and technical skill development is imperative.

Athlete-perceived coaching behaviors: Relating two measurement traditions

Article Abstract:

A study relates Leadership Scale for Sports (LSS) and Coaching Behavior Assessment System - Perceived Behavior Scale (CBAS-PBS) scores to the outcome of the measures and compares the amount of attitude variance captured by the two athlete-perception measures. The findings reveal that the LSS and the CBAS-PBS reported for similar and notable amounts of variance in athletes' liking for their coach and evaluations of their knowledge and teaching ability.
