Comparison of incremental treadmill exercise and free range running

Article Abstract:

This article compares physiological responses of competitive cross-country runners during treadmill exercise and free range running. Results show observed peak values were not significantly different, but test results varied from previous findings using cycling studies, except for post exercise blood lactate results.

Consistency of the talk test for exercise prescription

Article Abstract:

The Talk Test is well correlated with the ventilatory threshold, with accepted guidelines for exercise prescription, and with the ischemic threshold. A study is conducted to evaluate the consistency of the Talk Test by comparing responses during different modes of exercise. The results supported the hypothesis that the Talk Test approximates ventilatory threshold on both treadmill and cycle.

Development of maximal testing protocol for the NordicTrack cross-country ski simulator

Article Abstract:

Cross-country ski simulators may be as effective as graded treadmill (TM) tests. Researchers compared the physiological responses of 13 men and 15 women on both the TM and the NordicTrack 900, a cross-country ski simulator. Maximal oxygen consumption, heart rates, and perceived exertion were similar for both types of exercise testing. Participants on the ski simulator reached exhaustion slightly earlier than those tested on TM.
