American Sharon Matola, first travelled to Central America during a stint in the Air Force, and then settled in Belize in 1982. She now runs the Belize Zoo and Tropical Education Center and is an active environmentalist working to preserve endangered species and habitats.

Public hearings in Aug 1992 about reintroducing wolves to Yellowstone Park conducted by the US Fish and Wildlife Service coincided with documentary evidence that wolves are already there. Ranchers and environmental groups clashed on the findings.
