Some experts argue that exercisers should stay withing 65 to 73 percent of maximum heart rate during an aerobic workout for efficient fat burning. Actually, a high-intensity workout burns more fat, but a low-intensity workout might result in a longer workout.

Runners should prepare for 5-K races by adding two speedwork sessions a week to their practice about two months before the race. Such races can effect heart rate and oxygen consumption dramatically, especially towards the end of the race.
