Effect of intense training on plasma leptin in male and female swimmers

Article Abstract:

This article examines the relationship between intense physical training and plasma leptin concentrations after fasting in college swimmers. Findings indicate that there were significant decreases in body fat following increased training in female swimmers, but there were no changes in plasma leptin levels in men or women.

Monitoring the lactate threshold in world-ranked swimmers

Article Abstract:

This article examines the relationship between physical fitness, lactate threshold, and athletic performance in elite swimmers. Findings indicate that swimmers experienced improvements in fitness indicators such as lactate tolerance and swimming speed at lactate threshold after twenty weeks of training, but they were not associated with improvements in competition performance.

Glucose uptake in muscle cell cultures from endurance-trained men

Article Abstract:

Noninsulin-and insulin-mediated glucose uptake in human skeletal muscle cells from endurance-trained and sedentary individuals is investigated. The results indicate that cultured skeletal muscle cells from endurance-trained athletes may differ in respect to basal glucose uptake.
