Effect of preexercise ingestion of modified cornstarch on substrate oxidation during endurance exercise

Article Abstract:

The differences between the plasma glucose and insulin levels in the blood after administering dextrose (DEX) and unmodified (UAMS) and acid/alcohol-modified (MAMS) cornstarches are examined. It is shown that MAMS has increased carbohydrate oxidation rate to the same extent as DEX without increasing plasma glucose or insulin concentrations before exercise.

Effect of a FastSkin(sup)TM suit on submaximal freestyle swimming

Article Abstract:

Research does not indicate any physiological or biomechanical benefits from FastSkin suits as compared with a brief-style suit during submaximal freestyle swimming. Furthermore, the combined effect of increased covered body surface area and suit material design have no measurable effect on submaximal responses to swimming.

The effects of 17alpha-methyltestosterone on myocardial function in vitro

Article Abstract:

Effects of 17(alpha)-methyltestosterone on myocardial function have been studied in vitro. Chronic treatment with anabolic steroids seems to cut down left-ventricular compliance, perhaps related to greater activity of lysyl oxidase. This brings more crosslink formation between collagen strands in the extracellular matrix
