Epstein-Barr virus serostatus: No difference despite aberrant patterns in athletes and control group

Article Abstract:

A study investigates the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) serostatus in an athletic endurance population, especially the prevalence of complex aberrant EBV antibody patterns, and determines whether serology in athletes is more complex than in the general population. No evidence is found for the assumption that endurance athletes are more susceptible to EBV infections than the general population and no differences are indicated with respect to serological classical and aberrant complicated patterns between athletes and the control group.

Viral hepatitis and exercise

Article Abstract:

Viral hepatitis is the viral disease most likely to occur in athletes. It is unlikely that an athlete will transmit the virus directly to another player. The only possible exceptions are contact sports such as wrestling, boxing, and hockey.
