Energy cost of walking in boys who differ in adiposity but are matched for body mass

Article Abstract:

Results suggest that only body mass more than adiposity that influence the energy cost of locomotion in obese boys. Data show that although there are no intergroup differences in the net energy cost at lower speeds, obese boys expend more energy as well as show higher heart rates. Data do not show any relaiobship between maximal oxygen consumption and the proportion of fat in body segments.

High-carbohydrate versus high-fat diets: effect on body composition in trained cyclists

Article Abstract:

High-carbohydrate and high-fat diets have been compared relative to effects on body composition in trained cyclists. It was concluded that during endurance training when energy requirements are high, increasing the percentage of fat in the diet to about 50% of total energy does not increase body weight or adiposity. The reason is that athletes can maintain energy balance.

Effects of back extensor strength training versus balance training on postural control

Article Abstract:

The best physical therapy for back muscle problems should include antagonist muscles in a program of either balance skill or strength training. The back extensor strengthening techniques used in this study led to less postural stability on hard surface, while balance skill training showed no change.
