Exercise in heart failure: Should aqua therapy and swimming be allowed?

Article Abstract:

A study on changes in cardiac dimensions and central homodynamic during graded immersion and swimming in patients with moderate and/or sever MI and in patient with moderate and/or compensated sever chronic congestive heart failure (CHF) is conducted. The acute responses during immersion and swimming suggest the need for additional studies on long-term changes in cardiac dimensions and central hemodynamic in patients.

A simple, reliable method of assessing exercise capacity in patients with chronic heart failure

Article Abstract:

The Master-Borg test is clinically useful for evaluating the health aspects of physical activity and the ability of people with chronic heart failure to exercise. This test uses the self-evaluation of shortness of breath at a constant workload as provided by a symptom-limited treadmill exercise test. This simple, inexpensive procedure was found to significantly correlate with peak oxygen and anaerobic thresholds.

Influence of high-intensity exercise training on the ventilatory response to exercise in patients with reduced ventricular function

Article Abstract:

The beneficial effects of exercise on overall cardiac output and ventilation in patients with a history of heart attack or bypass surgery are described. The heart patients had reduced ventricular function.
