Exercise-related lower leg pain: an overview

Article Abstract:

Exercise-related lower leg pain (ERLLP) is discussed with consideration of causes, which may be bony or nonbony. Most often the presentation is shin pain. The term shin splints should be avoided, but is commonly used by runners for the pain they commonly experience along the medial border of the shin. A more precise pathological diagnosis must be made. Table gives guidelines for differentiation between common causes of exercise-related shin pain.
