Article Abstract:

Carelessness and bad luck led to the near sinking of a 20-foot center console 10 miles off the North Carolina shore. A new steering system had been installed before the trip, which had shorted the bilge pump's wiring. The boat filled with water but stayed afloat until the three people aboard were rescued.
