Flying Wide sleeping bags

The Flying Wide Penguin is an excellent sleeping bag that unzips fully to allow an optional nylon groundsheet which will hold two sleeping pads. This makes it a very versatile sleeping system for any climate. It is made by Feathered Friends and several Flying Wide Models are available. The Penguin costs between $269 and $359.

Walrus Nightfire 10 degree F sleeping bag

Article Abstract:

The $175 Walrus Nightfire sleeping bag is made with the new synthetic material Primaloft 2. A test of the 3lb, 11 ounce bag during wet conditions on a backpacking trip found it to be comfortable, warm and quick drying. However the bag does not have an insulated collar and the zipper grabbed.

The Alps Spruce Mountain 20 ($180) is an affordable down-filled sleeping bag rated to 20 degrees F. It is a well-designed bag that is functional for backpacking trips. However, the cut is somewhat narrow and the zipper is prone to snagging.
