Functional health: Innovations in research on physical activity with older adults

Article Abstract:

Innovations on physical activity interventions based on older adults' desire for physical competence, motivating them to attend educational sessions on activity, feasibility and efficacy of group-mediated psychological empowerment in conjunction with traditional methods of strengthening and abilities acquired to perform activities of daily living (ADL) are studied. A collaborative relationship between interventionists and participants is necessary and close attention should be paid to adults' symptoms, emotions, motives, beliefs and objectives.

Validity of four short physical activity questionnaires in middle-aged persons

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to find out the reproducibility, relative and absolute validity of four short physical activity questionnaires with short version of International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) by comparing them with uniaxial accelerometry measures. It is concluded that short version of IPAQ is a reliable and valid questionnaire to assess physical activity especially for activities performed at moderate intensities and for use in large telephone surveys.

Visual feedback attenuates force fluctuations induced by a stressor

Article Abstract:

The effects of a stressor on the force fluctuations and information transmission exhibited by young, middle-aged and older adults are determined when a pinch-grip task is performed with or without visual feedback. The results indicate that removal of visual feedback increases the force fluctuation and decreases information transmission during a stressor period.
