School-based physical activity does not compromise children's academic performance

Article Abstract:

A study is conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of a school-based physical activity intervention, Action Schools! BC (AS! BC) for maintaining academic performance in a multiethnic group of elementary children, and to determine whether boys and girls' academic performance changed similarly after participation in AS! BC. The AS! BC is found to be an attractive and feasible intervention to increase physical activity for students while maintaining levels of academic performance.

Validation and calibration of the Actical accelerometer in preschool children

Article Abstract:

A study aims to calibrate and validate the Actical accelerometer, which is used in the measurement of physical activity (PA) in young children. The instrument is found to be a valid tool for measuring PA and with its small size and water resistance can be valuable for future use in large-scale studies.
