Functional output improvement in FES cycling by means of forced smooth pedaling

Article Abstract:

The influence of forced smooth and normal (nonsmooth) pedaling on the functional output of outdoor functional neuromuscular electrical stimulation (FES)-propelled cycling of spinal cord-injured persons is investigated. Results found that the superiority of forced smooth cycling is based on less energy expenditure and on more efficient production of energy.

Gender differences in workload effect on coordination between breathing and cycling

Article Abstract:

Research reveals no effect of exercise intensity on the extent of coordination between breathing and cycling in females, while men even with the greatest workload increase coordination. Data indicate that this gender difference is not due to differences in breathing pattern during increased metabolism.

Effects of front and dual suspension mountain bike systems on uphill cycling performance

Article Abstract:

A dual-suspension mountain bike does not offer any significant advantage over a front-suspension bike in terms of the time it takes a cyclist to complete a course. This was the conclusion of researchers who asked six trained cyclists to test both types of bikes.
