Article Abstract:

Cyclists can overcome hills by shifting to an easier gear before the climb. They should spin on the last two-thirds of the hill and time their next shift before moving forward in a group. Moreover, cyclists should not accelerate too hard on the gear just for a few strokes.

Recommendations are presented on the proper technique of riding a bike through a stream. These include determining entry and exit points, avoiding direct lines, investigating the bottom of the stream and using the right gear and speed when crossing.
