Ground reaction forces and bone parameters in females with tibial stress fracture

Article Abstract:

A study designed to find whether female runners with a history of tibial stress fracture (TSF) differ in ground reaction force (GRF) parameters during running, regional bone density, and tibial bone geometry from those who have never sustained a stress fracture (NSF) is presented. The results of the experiment show no role of GRF in the development of TSF suggesting the importance of other risk factors is discussed.

The master female athlete

Article Abstract:

Master athletes are generally considered those over 35 years of age, even more frequently those in the fourth and fifth decades. It is found that changes in dietary and lifestyle have resulted in rising rates of cardiac disease and its complications in women across the globe, and thus it becomes important to properly evaluate the female master athlete before initiation of a strenuous exercise regime.
