Heart rate variability in adolescents: Relations to physical activity, fitness, and adiposity

Article Abstract:

A study revealed that in adolescents favorable Heart Rate Variability (HRV) profiles are generally associated with higher amounts of moderate-vigorous physical activity (MVPA) and cardiovascular fitness (CVF) even after controlling for age, race, sex, % BF and their interactions is described. After controlling for age, race, and sex more favorable HRV profiles are associated with more MVPA, better CVF and less visceral and subcutaneous adiposity.

Development of novel techniques to classify physical activity mode using accelerometers

Article Abstract:

An attempt was made to provide proof of concept that using data from accelerometer, a classification algorithm, could classify various common types of physical activity (PA) more accurately than the standard analysis techniques in use. It is found that the approach of estimating activity mode, rather than activity level allows accurate field-based estimates of PA using accelerometer data.

Effects of a single bout of exercise on resting heart rate variability

Article Abstract:

The theory that a single bout of exercise leads to beneficial changes in the cardiac autonomic function as evaluated by measures of heart rate variability (HRV) is examined. The results conclude that the changes in cardiac autonomic function are similar to those seen in assessments of long-term training exercise.
