Catfish, one of the most popular gamefish, are sought by 15 million Americans each year, often becoming an obsession. Cats are found around the world and can reach huge proportions. The wels catfish of Russia may reach as up to 600 lbs. Catfishing equipment and techniques are described.

The waters of the Santee-Cooper system in South Carolina contain blue catfish that come in large sizes. Joe Drose, a fisherman, successfully uses drift-fishing techniques year-round to catch the fish and baits hooks with blueback herring instead of mussels.
