Boaters who are ill-equipped to be handymen are often convinced that they have a major problem even if the solution calls for the simplest and most basic electronic technique. Boaters are advised to know their equipment in order to resolve problems with radio signals, depthsounders, and radar tops.

Fishfinders may be unable to function if their transducers are installed near areas of the boat that are exposed to turbulence. Transducers must be installed using transom mounting and should be fully submerged.
