Long-distance limbo

Article Abstract:

This article examines the development of mobile telephone technology in Europe, the US, and Australia, and finds that digital technology prevailed in Europe, analog in the US in the form of the Advanced Mobile Phone System (AMPS), and that AMPS was also used in Australia and elsewhere until distance problems were partially overcome through a digital satellite system, Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA). Relevant details include the specifics of the various systems and the prospects for CDMA in Australia.

Baseball scout John Young organized Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities in 1989 to provide an alternative to gang activities, and it has grown to 35,000 participants in 50 cities. The program teaches kids life skills as well as how to play baseball.
