Incidence, etiology, and symptomatology of upper respiratory illness in elite athletes

Article Abstract:

A prospective surveillance study is conducted to identify and examine the incidence, pathogenic etiology and symptomatology of the acute upper respiratory illness (URI), the most common medical condition affecting elite athletes. The analysis demonstrates the existence of a higher rate of URI among elite athletes than the competitive athletes and hence suggests that physicians should consider infectious, as well as noninfectious causes when athletes present with any symptoms.

BMI and health-related physical fitness in Taiwanese youth 9-18 years

Article Abstract:

The measurement of the height, weight and four other measures of physical fitness for Taiwanese youth between 9 and 18 years are used to study the cross-sectional relationship between their body mass index (BMI) and the physical fitness index (PFI). The analysis reveals that the PFI decreases in a curvilinear manner with increasing BMI, which also highly depends on the age of the person, as the relationship becomes parabolic with an increase in the age of the youth.

One-mile run/walk and body mass index of an ethnically diverse sample of youth

Article Abstract:

The relationship between cardiovascular fitness levels and body mass index (BMI) status among an ethnically diverse sample of youth is explored. The variation observed in 1-mile run/walk is similar to those observed for physical activity.
