"Intellectuals" and "jocks" in the soccer commentators' booth in Israel

Article Abstract:

Issues concerning the broadcasting of soccer by the Israeli media are discussed. The introduction of "intellectuals" and soccer "jocks" into the soccer commentators booth and the public debate about soccer commentary that followed this trend are analyzed. Interviews of the commentators themselves and analyses of these interviews are included.

The relative age effect in soccer: cross-cultural evidence for a systematic discrimination against children born late in the competition year

Article Abstract:

Research on age discrimination in youth soccer is presented. Findings include a pronounced relative age effect independent of other sociocultural factors and cut-off dates, indicating that the effect found in professional soccer has its origin in youth soccer.

Free agency and pay discrimination in major league baseball

Article Abstract:

Major league baseball is a natural setting for the study of discrimination in the workforce. The way in which market constraints on competition for labor encourage wage discrimination is discussed.
