Article Abstract:

Asphalt, cinder, concrete, dirt, grass, sand, snow, track, treadmill, and wood chip running surfaces are discussed. All the surfaces tend to have both advantages and disadvantages for runners. Asphalt, for example, is softer than concrete, but the crowns of some roads can result in an uneven pace.

Looking ahead: Bob Kennedy has a simple plan: get faster every year. It's worked for a decade

Kennedy ranks as the best US distance runner over the past 15 years. In 1996, after the Atlanta Olympics, he went on to be ranked 6th in the world. Kennedy's performances and achievement are outlined from his 1985 high school days to 1997. The record shows his constant improvement in speed.
