May: the old Lab's youth was filled with nameless terrors, but hunting waterfowl had given her strength

Article Abstract:

A hunter describes the hunting career of a Labrador Retriever. The dog, from the first, seemed to have nameless terrors in her life and, although they never completely disappeared, they seemed to lessen as her interest in hunting grew. A last hunting trip, when the dog was 11, is described.

Streamside surgery

Article Abstract:

Fly fishers will find that carrying a pair of scissors and modifying a dry fly in the water is more efficient than carrying a large assortment of flies, none of which may be a good mimic of the fishes' favorite food. Fly alterations are made on the hackle, wings, and tails and shucks.
