Muscle cytokine mRNA changes after 2.5 h of cycling: Influence of carbohydrate

Article Abstract:

The effect of carbohydrate compared to placebo ingestion on plasma cytokines and muscle cytokine mRNA for 12 h following 2.5 h of intensive cycling in 15 trained cyclists compared to five resting controls were examined. Carbohydrate compared to placebo ingestion by athletes cycling intensely for 2.5 h increased blood glucose and carbohydrate oxidation, attenuated increased in plasma stress hormones and had no influence on muscle glycogen depletion rates.

Effect of creatine and weight training on muscle creatine and performance in vegetarians

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to compare the change in muscle total creatine (TCr), fiber morphology, body composition, hydration status and exercise performance between vegetarians and non-vegetarians with 8 wk of creatine supplementation and resistance training. It was revealed that creatine supplementation together with resistance training brought greater changes in muscle phosphocreatine, total creatine, Type II fiber area, lean tissue mass, and total work.
