The technologies of the self: sport, feminism and foucault

Article Abstract:

Michael Foucault thinks that human beings turn themselves into subjects and so are labeled as "The technologies of the self". Technologies of the self is a complex concept and so there is no formula that can identify which sporting practices are the prac tices of freedom.

No pain is sane after all: A Foucauldian analysis of masculinities and men's experiences in rugby

Article Abstract:

A research that used Foucauldian theorizing to examine the articulations between masculinities and men's rugby union experiences of pain, fear and pleasure. It helps to justify concerns about the social significance of popular heavy-contact sports and gendering processes.

Michel Foucault's technologies of the self-practices of freedom are characterized by ethics of self-care, critical awareness, and aesthetic self-stylization. Fitness practices are collectively defined as mindful fitness.
