(Un)disciplined bodies: A Focuauldian analysis of women's rugby

Article Abstract:

Foucault's notion of disciplinary processes, power, and docile bodies are used to investigate the multiple and complex ways in which the female rugby body is disciplined. The results suggest that the female rugby players see their bodies as resistant and transgressive, and as a result, construct their bodies as undisciplined and demonstrate an acute awareness of the ways in which their bodies resist ideas of normative femininity.

Representing the female pugilist: Narratives of race, gender, and disability in Million Dollar Baby

Article Abstract:

An analysis of Clint Eastwood's, Million Dollar Baby, with reference to the film's portrayal of race, gender, class and disability politics is presented. The film does not actually focus on women's boxing, disability, or the right to die, but on the male struggle to protect their masculinity in sports where the female presence is increasing.
