Article Abstract:
The 1997 Southern California PHRF Championships at Newport Beach was held on Aug 16-17 with 88 boats participating. The competition uses the PHRF handicap rating system to make the playing field even. However, the system is far from perfect as it takes into account not only the boat but the people in it.

Transpac: keeps on ticking
Article Abstract:
A description is presented of the events which have occurred during the Transpac sailboat race over a course of 2,225-miles. The decline in race entries for the Southern California to Hawaii race is discussed.

The Maxi Yacht Rolex Worlds championship that was held in September 2003 at Porto Cervo in Sardinia is presented. Alfa Romeo, a water-ballasted 90-foot boat captained by Neville Crichton won the championship.
