A sensitive solution to caring for the mentally impaired
Article Abstract:
Architect, Manser Associates has designed a residential care unit for elderly psychiatric patients. The 36 bed unit replaces two hospital-based facilities and aims to allow the residents as much independence as possible. The building is arranged on a cruciform pattern with a large communal area in the centre. Patients have individual rooms and can move throughout the building which is light and safe. The building has been criticised for not allowing enough privacy and for having too little office space but the patients and staff have responded well.

Panama sled

A chartered yacht cruise from the San Blas Islands off Panama, through the Panama Canal to the Perlas Islands in the Pacific Ocean is described. The trip included visits to Spanish ruins, tropical rain forests, beaches and dive spots.
