Goal profiles in sport motivation: a cluster analysis

Article Abstract:

This study investigates the relationship between goal-orientation profiles and perceptions of physical ability in rugby players. Results indicate that a high ego-orientation, or a strong desire to prove oneself, paired with a poor self-concept of ability results in maladaptive achievement behaviors such choosing simplistic tasks or devaluing difficult tasks.
