Physical activity of young people: the Amsterdam Longitudinal Growth and Health Study

Article Abstract:

This article examines changes in the regular physical activity levels of Dutch males and females between adolescence and early adulthood. Analyses of data from a longitudinal health study indicate that both males and females experienced a reduction in physical activity levels but the decline was significantly larger in males.

Changes in physical activity patterns in the United States, by sex and cross-sectional age

Article Abstract:

This article examines sex and age-related differences in physical activity patterns in the United States. Analyses of data from a national health survey indicate that women of all ages report lower rates of regular exercise than men and that physical activity levels decline continuously between adolescence and retirement.

Decline of physical activity from youth to young adulthood in Finland

Article Abstract:

This article examines changes in physical activity levels among Finnish males and females between adolescence and early adulthood. Analyses of longitudinal data indicate a significant decline in self-reported activity levels and sports participation after age twelve that is more significant for males than females.
