Protein added to a sports drink improves fluid retention

Article Abstract:

An investigation on 13 experienced endurance athletes aged between 20 to 28 years was done to determine the influence of the addition of protein to a carbohydrate based sports drink (CP) in comparison with only carbohydrate beverage (CHO) and water (WA) following exercise-induced dehydration on fluid retention. It was shown that the fluid retention for the CP was 15% more as compared to CHO and 40 % in comparison with WA and that water ingestion resulted in serum dilution and only 53% fluid retention.
