Reliability and comparability of the accelerometer as a measure of muscular power

Article Abstract:

Studies indicate that accelerometers are a reliable method of evaluating muscle power. In bench press performances by male test subjects, measurements obtained from the device were analyzed according to average velocity, average power, and total displacement. Results show that barring minor information acquisition errors, accelerometers are useful, accurate and versatile in muscle power assessment.

Kyphosis in active and sedentary postmenopausal women

Article Abstract:

This article examines the relationship between kyphosis, or an abnormal curvature of the spine, and physical activity in postmenopausal women. Findings indicate that physical activity level is not significantly correlated with kyphosis, but women who are active during their youth are generally stronger and more active as older women.

Deficits in eccentric versus concentric torque in children with spastic cerebral palsy

Article Abstract:

This article examines measures of concentric and eccentric peak torque in the knee and ankle muscles of children with spastic cerebral palsy. Results indicate that children with cerebral palsy had reduced peak torque values when compared to healthy peers and that spasticity plays a role in voluntary force production.
