Article Abstract:

The new ATP chief, Etienne de Villers, who replaced Mark Miles in September, 2005, is planning to create shorter tour structure, due to burnout of players as a result of long seasons. The WTA tour and International Tennis Federation, in 2005, worked together its achieve a significant change to its schedule by shifting the Fed Cup to September, which added two weeks to the off-season, bringing it to a total of six and a half weeks.

Franker says the US racist attitude among athletes surprised him. He was passed over for jobs in the US and now coaches the Royal Dutch Lawn Tennis Association. Franker has emphasized international tournaments to Dutch officials and he thinks the US will continue to lead in tennis.
