Sex differences in single muscle fiber power in older adults

Article Abstract:

A study aims to directly compare whole and single muscle power production at cellular level in older men and women to elucidate any sex-related differences. The indication is that single muscle fiber quality is equivalent in both older males and females and the difference in whole muscle strength, power and function cannot be explained on this basis which calls for future research taking into account additional factors like reduced leg muscle power.
