Sport and the mass media in Japan

Article Abstract:

The relationship between the mass media and sport in Japan is argued, where the involvement of business Corporation in the development of relations between professional sport and the mass media is a focal point and development of media sport in the advanced capitalistic countries. In Japan hegemonic sports and culture power needs to be explored, which reflects the capitalist dynamics that increasingly shape the relationship between sport and mass media in Asia.

This article explores how television media coverage of professional sports creates a relationship between political, economic, and social life. The author, focusing of the 1998 Kuala Lumpur Commonwealth games, argues the broadcasters recreated the games as a mode of production within the realm of capitalism, competing with a different version of Malaysian culture, economic policy, and political preference.

On the sidelines: Sex and racial segregation in television sports broadcasting

There are sex and racial segregation within television sports broadcasting. With help of logit, log-linear analysis the relationship between job classifications is examined within sports broadcasting and such explanatory variables as sex and race.
