The freshness fallacy: who says the veggies in the produce bin are better for you than the ones in the freezer?

Article Abstract:

Most people believe that produce offers more health benefits when it is fresh, rather than frozen, but a study has shown that frozen vegetables offer virtually the same vitamin C, fiber, and beta-carotene as fresh vegetables. In addition, it was determined that canned produce is nearly equal to frozen.

The Center for Science in the Public Interest has undertaken a campaign to reveal the dangers involved in restaurant dining. Dishes such as kung pao chicken and fettuccine alfredo have already been criticized for their fat content, along with favorites such as movie popcorn and deli sandwiches.

How America eats: we say our meals are healthier than ever, yet our trash bins are filled with burger cartons and pizza boxes

Most Americans claim they are eating healthier food, but research shows that their favorite meals are still pizza, hamburgers and french fries. Most meals are made of convenience foods, and 43% of Americans eat at least one meal per day in restaurants. The number of healthy eaters is dwindling.
