The night the gun dogs blew away

Article Abstract:

The true story of how a kennel of gun dogs miraculously survived through a tornado outside of Wichita, KS, is presented. Many of the dogs had been literally picked up by the tornado and strewn about the countryside, but they somehow managed to survive with mostly minor injuries.

Collier Smith, the winner of the 1984 National Bird Dog Championship, believes that shot-to-retrieve and other new trials are preserving the sport of bird dog training. He maintains that letting a puppy run after birds for a time makes the breaking period shorter and easier.
