Two percent dehydration impairs and six percent carbohydrate drink improves boys basketball skills

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to verify the effect of 2% exercise heat-induced dehydrated (DEH) and 6% carbohydrate-electrolyte solution (CES) euhydration (EUH) compared with placebo EUH on basketball skill performance measures. It was found that decline in basketball skill performance accompanies two percent dehydration in skilled 12- to 15-year-old basketball players and EUH with 6% CES improves shooting performance and on-court sprinting over EUH with water.

Sex differences in voluntary fluid intake by older adults during exercise

Article Abstract:

A study is conducted which compares the voluntary fluid intake behavior of older men and women when provided cold, palatable beverages and ample opportunity to drink between repeated bouts of exercise in the heat. The result shows that older women drank more water than men during interval exercise in the heat, which may put smaller women at an increased risk for developing hyponatremia.
