Workouts of the champions: four greats share their ski fitness secrets

The exercise routines of champion skiers Julie Parisien, Stein Eriksen, Dave Swanwick, and Penny McCoy-Booth are described. The skiers have developed enjoyable workouts that they do on a regular basis. Average skiers can become more physically fit by developing similar routines.

Skiers in good condition should do a general workout one per week, and concentrate on oft-neglected muscles twice per week. The upper back (modified reverse fly) and shins (tibia pulls) are among the body areas included in this alternative training regimen.

Slide to ski: the slide board is a new way to train for skiing

A slide board can help skiers improve their technique because the movements on the board are similar to those used while skiing. This type of exercise also provides a cardiovascular workout and improves balance and muscle strength.
