The turnover of the Panama Canal to Panama has had negative consequences for yachtsman using the Canal. Fees and fines have increased substantially while services have declined. Some fear that recreational traffic will be eliminated.

The peerless pilot of Panama

Article Abstract:

Sarah Terry was the first female pilot licensed to drive boats through the Panama Canal. She began her job when the US controlled the Canal and continued after the handover to Panama, later resigning to go cruising.

Please send me this article, it is very important for our library in Panama Canal Authority. Sara Therry as first women pilot licences in the Panama Canal represent a significatn historical fact. Another women: Vilma Romero was the first panamanian to be a pilot licence in the canal.

A sailing cruise from Maine to Nova Scotia, Newfoundland, Greenland and Baffin Island is described. The voyage included encounters with helpful local residents, dangerous ice floes, storms and a polar bear.
