Multimedia set-top box

Article Abstract:

Canal+ of Paris, France, has unveiled its MediaSat digital set-top box that complies with the standards of the European Digital Video Broadcasting (DVB) and MPEG-2. The device permits users to download software, access the Internet, bank at home, vote, shop at home, play games, subscribe to pay-per-view, receive weather reports, advertise online and look for work online. MediaSat is based on MediaGuard and MediaHighway, two software that allows the unit to operate independently from a given platform or operating system.

Starlink ripples reach Brazil, Japan

Article Abstract:

Brazil is expected to become a net corn exporter for the first time sine 1982 as foreign buyers have turned their backs on US grain due to the negative impact of Starlink on the US corn market. The US Dept of Agriculture estimates Brazil corn production for 2000/2001 to be 38.5 million tons, up from 31.6 million tons in 1999/2000. Brazil is expected to export 800,000 tons of corn during 2001.
