The US Environmental Protection Agency's standards for heavy-duty bus engines and use of alternative fuels by buses to further reduce emissions of nitrogen oxides are discussed. Additional information on the cost of operating buses fueled by compressed gas vs diesel fuel is also included.

Can diesel be bus fuel of both past, present? There are a variety of good arguments for state-of-the-art diesel engines on transit buses. Too bad many transit agencies aren't heeding them
