To reduce youthful binge drinking: call an election in Mexico

Article Abstract:

Many Americans travel to Tijuana, Mexico to drink due to a loosely enforced drinking age and the availability of low-priced alcohol. Statistics indicate that closing Tijuana's bars during two weekends for government elections significantly reduced the number of border crossers and the blood alcohol content of returning pedestrians.

Cross-border college drinking

Article Abstract:

Most male college students under 21 crossing from the US to Mexico are likely to consume twice as much alcohol as their female companions. Since these young men are more likely to be drivers, their behavior increases risk for themselves and their companions.
