Competition toughens as capacity increases

Article Abstract:

The North American shipping industry dominates the market for international cruise berths due to an increase in passengers from 1.43 million to 4.48 million from 1992 to 1993. The demand for cruise berths also improved in Europe, the Far East and South East Asia from 1994 to 1995 due to the addition of 18,400 berths. Passenger capacity improved by 16% for a total increase of one million passengers. The continued addition of new vessels will result in an over-supply by the year 2000.

High-speed monohull for Indonesia

Article Abstract:

Angkutan Sungai Danau dan Penyeberangan's (ASDP) 'Ambulu' passenger ferry is the result of the joint effort of shipbuilders Lurssen and PT Pal. ASDP's Ambulu is the first of five ships that the state-owned passenger shipping line ordered in 1995 from the German/Indonesian joint venture. Lurssen, which has been in Indonesia since the late 1970, was responsible for constructing the vessel while PT Pal was in charge of manufacturing equipment and the outfitting of the Ambulu.
