Article Abstract:

The demand for raw materials and bulk chemicals is at an all-time high and so is the demand for specialized carriers to transport these materials. In view of the hazardous nature of chemicals, vessels carrying them have to meet different sets of stringent standards designed to ensure maximum protection to the crew and the environment. The newest tankers especially designed for chemicals are sophisticated ships with the most advanced technologies available.

Hard times in the tank trade

Article Abstract:

The tanker sector of the shipping industry has been plagued by problems concerning overtonnaging and oversupply. Owners of very large cargo carriers have been experiencing low returns on their investments and fewer ships are being purchased despite reductions in prices. Ship operators such as Hellespont Steamship Corp., for instance, choose life extension, which involves comprehensive retrofitting and upgrading procedures of ship facilities and equipments.

International shipping meets in Amsterdam

Article Abstract:

The 27th biannual Europort exhibition will be held in the week of Nov. 14, 1995, in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Located at the RAI Exhibition and Congress Center, Europort '95 will feature some 1,500 companies and organizations from 25 countries spread out among 500 exhibition stands. Seminars and panel discussions featuring industry experts are also being held.
