Banks block shipyards

Article Abstract:

The financial instability of Bulgaria's banking system is undermining the profitability of the country's shipyards. Bulgaria is plagued with a high inflation rate and foreign debts which discourage foreign investors to do business in the country. This hinders the planned expansion of the Bulgaria's shipbuilding industry which badly needs foreign contracts to remain competitive.

China sees only growth in its shipyards

Article Abstract:

Cheap labor and technological innovations have contributed to the success of the Chinese State Shipbuilding Company (CSSC) in international shipbuilding. CSSC's integrated shipbuilding and marine equipment industries have improved the production of bulk carriers and oil tankers to a total of 1,750,000 dwt for 1995. Larger oil tankers, bulk carriers and high-performance ships are also being developed by importing 10 shuttle tanker and container ship designs. The improvements in CSSC's design technology will satisfy the requirements of foreign and domestic shipowners.
