Japan tries to stay ahead

Article Abstract:

Japanese shipbuilders are determined to remain the leader in international shipbuilding even as their Korean counterparts are aggressively offering low prices to gain orders. The Koreans have just developed their large newbuilding capacity and are hungry for new customers. A weaker yen has helped Japanese shipyards remain competitive despite the low prices being set by Korea. The Japanese shipbuilders also see China as another competitor in the future, possibly in ten years time.

Large yards extend offshore references

Article Abstract:

FPSO and FSO technologies have been drawing considerable attention in the international shipbuilding sector, as operators start to appreciate the benefits offered by these markets. In fact, it has been reported that the number of FPSO and FSO facilities has been steadily rising in northern Europe, Spain and Singapore. Analysts attribute the growth to the capacity of FPSO and FSO to provide prolonged workload and the high contract value associated to them.
