Miracle's cylinders spark safety row

Article Abstract:

The UK officers' union Nautilus is arguing that the fire-fighting cylinders that were positioned in front of the bulkheads of six newbuilding car-carriers pose a safety risk to the ship's passengers and crew. Nautilus further argues that the cylinder's position is against SOLAS regulations.

France offers security for food cargoes

Nicolas Sarkozy has offered French naval escorts for ships that are carrying aid to Somalia in light of mounting maritime attacks off Somalia. Around 80% of food aid from the World Food Program is transported by sea.
